Oil Kings Fall to Pats in High Scoring Affair

REGINA, SK - The Oil Kings were defeated 6-3 by the Pats in Regina on Friday night, putting up a strong offensive showing on the road.

The Oil Kings travelled to Regina on Friday night for the first game of their current three-game road trip. Bauer, Fix-Wolansky and Klatt were able to get on the board, but the Pats staggering offense proved to be to strong as the Regina Pats defeated the Oil Kings 6-3 at the Brandt Centre on Friday night.

Both teams came out flying in the first. The Pats were first to get on the board as forward Braydon Buziak squeaked the puck past Dea to put the Pats up 1-0. Minutes later Pats forward Filip Ahl was sent to the box on an interference call resulting in the Oil Kings first powerplay of the game.

The Oil Kings put on good pressure in the first minute of the powerplay resulting in Robertson's one-timer from the point. It was there that Klatt was on the doorstep to deflect the puck past Hollett to tie the game. The goal was Klatt's first of the season.

Tensions were high for majority of the first period with 8 minor penalties (5 against Regina, 3 against Edmonton). The Pats would later go up 2-1 halfway through the first on a goal from Riley Woods. The Oil Kings would go back to the dressing room down 2-1 heading into the second period of play.

Fourteen seconds into the second period, Steel would extend the Pats lead by two putting them up 3-1. The goal was his first of the season. Under a minute later the Oil Kings would respond with a goal from Fix-Wolansky, cutting the lead to one.

Midway through the frame, Koch would get taken down on a short-handed breakaway resulting in a penalty shot. Koch on the backhanded attempt was stopped by Hollett who had a strong game between the pipes for the Pats stopping 34 of 37 SOG. Minutes later Koch raced into the Pats zone to find Lane Bauer streaking up the wing to tap home his second of the season tying the game at 3.

Ahl would pick up his second goal of the night late in third to put the Oil Kings down 4-3 heading into the third.

In the final period of play, the Pats would add two more goals from Smith and Steel to close out the game marking the Oil Kings first loss of the season. The Oil Kings were outshot 42 to 37 by the Pats.

Oil Kings Head Coach, Steve Hamilton saw both positive and negative moments in the teams loss, "I think at moments we strung together some really positive shifts,"

"It's a very good team we played tonight. There's no question that if we want to be successful, that is going to be a team moving forward that we are going to have to compete hard against."

The Oil Kings three-game road trip continues on Saturday as they travel to Moose Jaw to take on the Moose Jaw Warriors. Puck drop is 7 p.m. CST.
