Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Calgary, AB- The second game in a home and home between the league leading Calgary Hitmen and the Edmonton Oil Kings looked much the same as the first. Special teams were the difference on Wednesday night, and proved to be the Oil Kings Achilles heel again on Friday in Calgary. For the second game in a row against the Oil Kings, the Hitmen went 4 for 3 on the man advantage.

The Hitmen opened the scoring in the first, with Stephane Legault watching from the box, St.Louis draft pick Tyler Shattock tucked away his 30th of the year, beating a sprawled Cam Lanigan and putting the home squad up by 1.

Five minutes later, Calgarys Ian Shultz put the finishing touch on a Brandon Kozun give-and-go, putting the Hitmen up by 2.

The second period saw the home team build on their lead when Kozun found the back of the net, off an Oil Kings giveaway.

15 Seconds later Tlyer Fiddler beat Lanigan, putting the Hitmen up by 3.

Oil Kings rookie Michael St.Croix answered, beating Hitmen goalie Martin Jones for his 18th of the year. The Oil Kings continued to buzz in the Hitmen zone, peppering Jones with shots, but the netminder stood tall.

The Hitmen found the net again. With Drew Nichol sitting in the box, Michael Stone made it 3 for 3 on the power play and ended Lanigans night.

Enter call up Laurent Brossoit, who immediately gets welcomed to the game by Cody Sylvester, putting the Hitmen up by 5. They never looked back, adding two more goals, winning the game 7-2.

The oil kings won't have long to let the loss settle, they'll be in Kootenay to take on the Ice tomorrow to close out the season.
