OHL Announces Rogers OHL Championship Series Schedule

April 28, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the schedule for the 2016 Rogers OHL Championship Series for the J. Ross Robertson Cup between the London Knights and the Niagara IceDogs beginning on Thursday May 5, 2016, in London.

The Knights captured their sixth Wayne Gretzky Trophy as Western Conference Champions on Wednesday night following a four-game series win over the Erie Otters. The IceDogs also advanced to the Championship Series on Wednesday night following a four-game series victory over the Barrie Colts capturing the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions for the second time in modern franchise history.

London entered the 2015-16 post-season as the third seed in the Western Conference with 105 points from a 51-14-2-1 record. Niagara is the Eastern Conference's fourth seed and played to a 35-26-4-3 record for 77 points. The clubs split the head-to-head series during the regular season with both teams winning on home ice including the IceDogs' 3-2 triumph on February 4, and the Knights' 3-1 win on February 12.

The 2016 Rogers OHL Championship Series marks a rematch of the 2012 Final between London and Niagara where the Knights captured the title in a 4-1 series win.

The Robertson Cup is emblematic of the Ontario Hockey League's championship series. The Cup was presented by J. Ross Robertson, who was president of the Ontario Hockey Association from 1901 to 1905. Since its inception, the Robertson Cup has been won by 23 different teams with the Oshawa Generals leading the way with 13 championships including a record seven straight from 1938-44.

The Knights have celebrated three Robertson Cup titles in franchise history including 2005, 2012, and 2013, while the IceDogs are in search of their first OHL Championship.
