Ohio Machine News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio (September 10, 2013) - The Ohio Machine (Machine) announced today the acquisition of defenseman and University of Maryland alum Brian Farrell through a trade with the Boston Cannons. In return for Farrell, the Cannons receive defenseman Diogo Godoi and the Machine's third round pick in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft.

Farrell played for the Boston Cannons in a total of 31 games over the past three seasons after being drafted in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft by Boston. While with the Cannons, Farrell scored 14 goals and recorded seven assists for a total of 23 points, as well as gathered 74 groundballs. Farrell most recently was named to the 52-man U.S. Men's National Team training roster, along with new Machine teammates Kyle Hartzell, Marcus Holman and Steele Stanwick, set to compete at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships.

"Brian is a talented player who has won an MLL Championship and brings with him a veteran presence that will not only be felt on the field but in the locker room as well," said President and GM John Algie. "Diogo is a fantastic player with an impressive work ethic and we can't thank him enough for all his work throughout this past season, but we are looking forward to having Brian join our team and seeing him out on the field in a Machine uniform."

Farrell was part of the Cannons' 2011 MLL Championship team and in that same year was named Boston's Rookie of the Year, as well as named a 2012 MLL All-Star. Prior to joining the Cannons, Farrell played for Maryland from 2007 to 2011 where he captained the Terps in 2010 and 2011 and was a three-time USILA All-American selection, as well as a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic and two-time Tewaaraton Trophy nominee.

Godoi joined the Machine through the 2013 MLL Supplemental Draft and played in a total of nine games for the Machine, where he tallied six groundballs. Godoi previously played for Chicago before settling in Rochester for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. During his time with Rochester, Godoi played in 13 games and scooped up 23 groundballs.
