Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Giants salvaged the final game of a three-game series in San Jose, snapping Rancho Cucamonga's three-game winning streak with a 3-2 win over the Quakes on Thursday night.

The Rancho offense, which had put up eight runs on 12 hits in each of the first two games of the series, was held in check by San Jose starter Mike Connolly (3-3), who fired eight innings and allowed just two unearned runs on only three hits.

Quakes' starter Caleb Ferguson was solid through a season-best six innings, but struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark. Ferguson gave up a pair of solo home runs, his first two allowed on the year. Daniel Carbonell's blast in the second made it 1-0, while Johneshwy Fargas followed with his second of the season in the third, making it 2-0.

Rancho took advantage of a pair of walks and a pair of errors in the fourth, tying the game at 2-2. Erick Mejia walked and scored from third on a passed ball for Rancho's first run, while Luke Raley also walked and then scored on a throwing error, evening the game.

San Jose took advantage of an error on Ferguson (1-2) in the fifth inning, to take the lead for good. With two outs, Matt Winn reached on an infield single, then moved to second as Ferguson issued his lone walk of the night, walking the nine-hitter Fargas. Jalen Miller followed with a dribbler to the first-base side of the mound. Ferguson grabbed it but his off-balance toss to first was badly off the mark, allowing Winn to score to put the Giants in front at 3-2.

Rancho didn't have a base-runner over the final three innings and didn't have many opportunities on the night, collecting just a total of three hits and grounding into three double-plays.

Giants' closer and Rancho Cucamonga native Ryan Halstead fanned two of the three men he faced in a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save of the year.

The Quakes (18-16) still lead the South Division and head to Visalia on Friday to open a four-game series against the Rawhide. Dennis Santana (2-2) takes on Jose Almonte (1-3) in the series-opener at 7:00pm.

After the completion of the seven-game road-trip, the Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, May 16th for a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Fans that bring ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans to the ballpark get a free Club Seat Ticket to Tuesday's game. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
