Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Louisville Bats (9-16) failed to slow the offensive outburst of the Columbus Clippers (11-14) dropping game-two by a score of 6-1 for the second-straight game. The loss marks the fifth-consecutive series loss for the Bats.

Wasting no time, the Clippers scored in each of the first three innings, starting with a sacrifice fly by Columbus left fielder Yandy Diaz that plated Erik Gonzalez . After scoring another run in the second, the Clippers scored a third run on a line drive single to bring Diaz home and put Columbus up 3-0.

In the bottom half of the third, catcher Rob Brantly smashed a leadoff home run over the right field wall. The long ball by Brantly was just the second hit of the contest with Jesse Winker knocking a single to center field in the second.

After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the third allowing only a single run, righty Lisalverto Bonilla allowed two more singles in the top of the fourth. The Bats' starter would manage to get out of the inning without surrendering a run to end his outing. Bonilla's went four innings, giving up nine hits and three runs, two of which were earned.

Coming out of the bullpen, right-hander Evan Mitchell entered the game to begin the fifth inning and retired the Clippers' batters in order for the first time in the game. Mitchell's outing lasted one and two-third innings allowing a hit and a run, while striking out two. With a season total of 17, Mitchel is tied for third in the International League in strikeouts among relievers.

Left-hander Lucas Luetge came in to get the final out of the sixth but allowed a walk and a double to surrender the fifth and sixth Columbus runs of the contest. Righty Alejandro Chacin would pitch the next two innings, allowing a run that increased the Clippers lead to five, 6-1. Chacin also struck out four batters in his outing.

Right-handed reliever Kyle McMyne pitched a perfect ninth inning that included a strikeout to send the game to the final half inning with the Bats' trailing the Clippers, 6-1. Bonilla took the loss for Louisville, as the Bat's could not plate a run in the final frame, falling to 2-2 on the year.

Offensively, Louisville batters reached in innings five through nine with runners reaching scoring position in the fifth and sixth. The Bats could not convert on any of those opportunities. The Bats' offensive highlights included a 3-4 night at the plate for designated hitter Jesse Winker. Center fielder Beau Amaral and first-basemen Sebastian Elizalde also chipped in with a double each.

The final game of the series will be an afternoon matinee Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. Right-hander Asher Wojciechowski (0-0, 0.00) will get the start having not allowed a run in nine and two-thirds innings this season. Getting the start for the Clippers will be Travis Banwart (1-2, 6.75).
