Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The offense was held in check Friday night as the Wilmington Blue Rocks (58-53/19-22) dropped the second game of the series against the Frederick Keys (51-58/20-20) by the score of 5-0 at Frawley Stadium. It was just the seventh time the Rocks have been shutout this season. Nick Heath and Jecksson Flores paced the offense with a pair of hits. The bullpen combined to toss four innings of relief without allowing an earned run. Wilmington has lost six of its last eight games.
Frederick scored the game's first run in the initial inning on a sacrifice fly from Jomar Reyes to put the Rocks behind 1-0. In the fourth inning, Frederick was at it again when Drew Turbin drove in the second run for the Keys on a sacrifice bunt to make it a 2-0 ballgame. In the fifth inning, Yermin Mercedes smacked a homer over the left field wall to put the Blue Crew behind 3-0.
In the ninth inning, the Keys added a pair of unearned runs when Frederick took advantage of a pair of errors by right fielder Nick Heath to break the game open 5-0.
Righty Scott Blewett suffered the loss, but only allowed three earned runs in five innings of work and struck out three batters. Lefty Luis Rico tossed three scoreless innings of relief with righty Jacob Bodner pitched the final inning of the game.
The Blue Rocks continue their series with the Keys on Saturday, August 5. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with RHP Jace Vines (0-1, 6.52 ERA) making the start for Wilmington while RHP Ofelky Peralta (2-8, 5.73 ERA) climbs the mound for Frederick. Fans can listen to the game as Matt Janus and Cory Nidoh will have the call on 89.7 WGLS-FM
