Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (31-29) fell to the Dayton Dragons (26-34) 12-10 in dramatic fashion on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Justin O'Conner tied the score with a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Dragons answered with two runs in the top of the tenth. The loss caps a 1-6 homestand for the Hot Rods, who are now 5.5 games out of the Eastern Division Wild Card spot with nine games to play.

Dayton took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, using two Hot Rods errors to build up the multi-run lead. Hot Rods starter Sean Bierman then escaped a big jam in the second inning as the Dragons stranded runners at second and third base.

Tommy Coyle started the comeback for the Hot Rods when he struck his third home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning. The solo shot landed on the roof of the visitor's bullpen in right field. Joey Rickard then doubled and scored on two wild pitches during the following at bat.

The Hot Rods drew one step closer in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Leonardo Reginatto doubled with one out, Geoff Rowan singled him home to bring the Hot Rods to within one run at 4-3. The Dragons acquired the run right back in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Reds prospect Jesse Winker.

RBI's from Andrew Toles and Patrick Leonard in the bottom of the fifth inning brought the game tied at 5-5, but the Dragons broke the tie with five runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Hot Rods chipped away at that lead and brought runners to first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth. That's when O'Conner struck his second home run of the season over the wall in right field to tie the score 10-10.

However, the Dragons scored twice in the top of the tenth inning, sending the Hot Rods to their fourth straight series loss.

Bowling Green will finish the first half of the season with a nine-game road trip that begins with a three-game series at Classic Park in Eastlake, OH, against the Lake County Captains on Saturday night at 7:00 PM EDT.
