COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today that Whitecaps starting right-handed pitchers Matt O'Brien and Jeff Gerbe were promoted for spot starts while RHP Guillermo Moscoso is promoted to West Michigan from short-season Oneonta.

O'Brien, 7-2 and 2.19 ERA this season, will make a spot start for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday while Gerbe, 2-2 and 2.34 ERA this season, will start for Double-A Erie Friday. This will be Gerbe's second spot start with the SeaWolves having started on June 9 against New Hampshire, going 6.0 innings with two runs allowed for a no-decision. Both pitchers are expected to return to the Whitecaps following their spot starts.

Moscoso was 7-2 with a 2.43 ERA with Oneonta is scheduled to make his spot start for the Whitecaps Friday night in the regular season home finale against Great Lakes. He's in his fifth season of professional baseball after being signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on Nov. 27, 2002. The Venezuela native made news this July when he tossed a no-hitter on July 15 against Batavia with seven strikeouts. Moscoso's start will be his debut with West Michigan.

The Whitecaps roster is currently at 24 active players.
