*HUDSON VALLEY WINS NYPL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 6-0 WIN AT VERMONT THURSDAY*

*Renegades score five times in second and hold Lake Monsters to one hit in shutout*

BURLINGTON, VT --- Hudson Valley scored five runs in the top of the second inning and starter Drew Strotman allowed just one infield single over the first six innings as the Renegades completed a two-game sweep of the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 6-0 shutout to win the New York-Penn League Championship Thursday night at historic Centennial Field.

A Zac Law leadoff single and Rafelin Lorenzo one-out double put a pair of Renegades in scoring position to start the second. Angel Perez followed with a sharp groundball single past a drawn in Lake Monsters infield to right scoring the first two runs of the game. Hudson Valley added another two runs on a wild pitch and throwing error before Taylor Walls capped off the inning with a solo home run to right for the 5-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Strotman (1-0), who retired the Lake Monsters in order in the first, three, fifth and sixth innings. Vermont had just three baserunners off Strotman, including two in the fourth on a Greg Deichmann infield single and a throwing error on a Jordan Devencenzi two-out grounder. The 2017 fourth-round pick out of Saint Mary's finished with five strikeouts over his six scoreless innings.

Vermont fared no better against reliever Andrew Gist, who after walking the first batter he faced in the seventh went on to retire the next six Lake Monsters before another leadoff walk in the ninth. He finished off the game and the championship on a strikeout, his third of the game.

Lake Monsters starter Parker Dunshee, who did not allow a run over 38 1/3 innings during the regular season, allowed two hits in the first inning and was unable to get out of the second inning as he was charged with all five runs on four hits in the inning. Reliever Brian Howard capped off his strong year with 3 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

The Renegades added a sixth run in the eighth inning on a Walls RBI single to center. Walls finished the night 3-for-4 with the homer and two RBI, while Perez and Tansel added two hits apiece. The title was the third in four finals all-time for Hudson Valley, which also won championships in 1999 and 2012.

The Stedler Division champion Lake Monsters end their season with the team's second championship series loss in three appearances, having lost the 1995 finals before winning the 1996 NYPL Championship. Vermont finished the regular season 42-33, the most wins for the Lake Monsters since winning 45 in 2000 and tied for the fourth-most all-time.
