Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - Another Modesto Nuts marathon ends after 15 innings with a 5-4 victory over the High Desert Mavericks on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

Wes Rogers was the hero to end the Nuts (18-27) four-game losing streak. In the 15th with infielder Tripp Martin (L, 0-1) on the mound, Omar Carrizales blooped a double down the left field line. Dom Nunez moved him to third on a groundout. Rogers drove him in with a RBI single past third.

It was the Nuts' league-leading seventh extra-innings game of the year.

Craig Schlitter (W, 2-0) poached the win by retiring the last out in the 15th in relief of Helmis Rodriguez who worked 4.2 innings. Rodriguez allowed three hits and one unearned run when the Nuts and Mavs (29-17) traded 13th-inning runs.

Luke Tendler delivered the two-out, go-ahead RBI single in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the 13th, Troy Stein came up with a game-tying RBI single with two outs to plate Carrizales.

Carrizales scored the tying run in the 13th and the winning run in the 15th. He also gave the Nuts their first lead in the third on a two-run triple. On the play, the throw back to the infield kicked away allowing Carrizales to score on the error.
