Not Enough Offense in 3-1 Loss

May 8, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release

TRENTON, NJ - Thunder pitchers tossed a three-run game, but the offense was neutralized by Binghamton Mets starting pitcher Logan Verrett over 8.2 innings in a 3-1 loss Wednesday night.

Trenton trailed 2-0 after a two-run homer by Binghamton Mets right fielder Cesar Puello in the second inning, but tacked a run on the board with a double by Tyler Austin and an RBI single by J.R. Murphy in the 4th. That would be the lone run of the game for the Thunder, and Binghamton would tack-on the final run of the game and inning later with Puello's second home run of the game- third in two nights.

The Thunder bullpen continued to be dominant in relief of the starting pitchers. Tonight's starting pitcher, Nik Turley whose record drops to 3-2 on the season, allowed all three runs in five innings of work. Aaron Dott and Shaeffer Hall combined to throw four shutout innings between them with three strikeouts.

The Thunder and New Hampshire Fisher Cats kick-off a four-game series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The game features RHP Zach Nuding (1-3, 2.27) for Trenton against RHP Deck McGuire (1-3, 5.34) for the Fisher Cats. Limited tickets are available through the Thunder box office at (609) 394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com/tickets. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:45 p.m.
