Huntsville Flight News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Mar. 22) – Sedric Webber scored a game-high 25 points to lead North Charleston to a 84-78 regular-season ending victory over Huntsville here Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.

With the win, the Lowgators (26-24) earned a No. 2 seed in the first round of the NBDL playoffs beginning Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. ET as they play host to No. 3 seed Mobile. Game two of the series is slated for Sunday, March 30, in Mobile with the tipoff slated for 4 p.m. CT. Game three will be played if necessary in North Charleston.

Joining Webber in double figures for the Lowgators was Corey Benjamin with 15 points, while Alpha Bangura, Damone Brown and Chudney Gray all tallied 11 points apiece for the Lowgators.

North Charleston led 76-75 heading into the final minute of the game before scoring consecutive baskets by Brown and Benjamin to push the score to 80-75. A free throw by Demetric Shaw and tip-in by Ike Nwankwo on the missed second foul shot cut the margin back to two with 8.5 seconds to play.

Benjamin, though, who scored seven of his point total in the final quarter, hit three-of-four free throws to seal the win.

"It was another hard fought game," Lowgator coach Doug Marty said. "Every time we come down here we know this is what to expect. It comes down to the wire anytime we play Huntsville."

As for the Flight, which finished their season at 22-28, they got a team-high 12 points from Art Long, while Jermaine Walker tallied 11 and Lonnie Harrell and Bakari Hendrix each collected 10.

"We had a chance in the end but just came up a little short," Flight coach Ralph Lewis said. "We would have loved to make the playoffs and win the championship this year, but this league is about developing players. We sent up Brandon Williams to the Hawks (this season) and Mike (Wilks) is now with the Timberwolves.

"I’m just as competitive as the next guy, maybe more so, but you have to put it in perspective. The NBDL is about developing players and putting a good product on the court every night."

In the other playoff series, No. 1 seed Fayetteville will play host to No. 4 seed Roanoke Tuesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. ET in game one of their best-of-three series. The second game is slated for Roanoke Sunday, March 30, at 4 p.m. ET.
