Norfolk Tides News Release

Mike Yastrzemski plated Craig Gentry with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth, lifting Norfolk to a 4-3 win over the Louisville Bats Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

With the score tied at 3-3 and one out in the final frame, Gentry was hit by a pitch from Bats reliever Domingo Tapia (0-1). After a wild pitch moved Gentry to second, Logan Schafer singled to right to put runners on first and second. Yastrzemski then served a soft fly ball into shallow center field, easily plating Gentry and giving the Tides a walk-off victory.

Yastrzemski finished with two singles in the contest, as five different Norfolk batters registered a multi-hit game in the 11-hit attack. The walk-off win was Norfolk's seventh of the season and gave the Tides a series victory over the Bats.

Norfolk starter Jordan Kipper turned in a strong start, as he allowed two runs on eight hits over seven-plus innings of work. He walked one and struck out a pair and left in line for the win, but the Bats rallied with two runs in the eighth inning off of Jimmy Yacabonis to saddle Kipper with the no-decision.

The Tides helped out Kipper by retiring three men on the bases, as Yastrzemski cut down a runner at third base, Gentry threw out a runner at home, and catcher Francisco Peña caught a runner trying to steal second base. The Tides ended the three-game set with six outfield assists, extending their league-leading total to 27 outfield assists on the season.

Logan Verrett (2-1) earned the win by retiring the only two batters he faced.

The Tides will open up a seven-game road trip on Monday night as they travel to Durham to start a four-game set. Left-hander Paul Fry (2-1, 6.28) will get the start in a bullpen game for the Tides, while the Bulls are slated to counter with RHP Brent Honeywell (6-5, 4.22).

Notes: Pedro Álvarez had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning...Logan Schafer had two hits and an RBI and has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, over which he's hit .400 (14-35) with 11 RBI...Norfolk went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position...With another caught stealing Sunday, Francisco Peña has now thrown out 58.3 % of attempted basestealers (7 of 12).
