Norfolk goes 2-2 on week, moves into tie for first

NORFOLK, VA – The Admirals finished last week at 2-2, with a pair of wins over Albany and losses to Binghamton and Hershey, moving into a tie for first place in the East with 10 points. Matt Ellison scored the decisive goal in the Admirals’ first AHL shootout as Norfolk downed Albany 2-1 on October 27. Binghamton erupted for five goals to defeat the Ads 5-3 on October 29. The next night, Craig Anderson made 29 stops as Norfolk shut out Albany 3-0. The Admirals concluded their road trip dropping a 3-2 game at Hershey on Sunday.
The Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins) make their lone trip to Hampton Roads on Friday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Admirals finish the week with a pair of matches in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Pittsburgh Penguins).
STANDINGS
At 5-3-0-0 (10 pts), Norfolk is tied for first in the East with Albany (4-3-1-1, 10 pts) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (4-4-1-1, 10 pts). They are followed by Philadelphia (4-2-0-0, 8 pts), Binghamton (4-4-0-0, 8 pts), Bridgeport (4-5-0-0, 8 pts) and Hershey (2-4-1-0, 5 pts).

· Norfolk leads the AHL in penalty killing (50-53, 94.34). The team had allowed just one power play goal in 48 chances prior to Hershey scoring twice with the man-advantage on Sunday.
· LW Rene Bourque tops the Admirals in goals with four, and among AHL rookies, ranks tied for third in goals and fourth in points (seven).
· G Craig Anderson made his 100th AHL appearance versus Albany on October 27, picking up the win in a shootout.
· C Mikhail Yakubov had a three-game assist streak (October 27-30, 4a) end at Hershey on Sunday.
· RW Matt Keith scored his first two goals of the season at Albany on Saturday and at Hershey on Sunday. He is tied with Rene Bourque and Ajay Baines for the team-lead in scoring with seven points each.
