SCOPING THE COMPETITION - SCOUTING REPORT FOR UPCOMING HOME GAMES

Providence (30-17-0-3, 63 points) is third in the Eastern Conference and is first in the Atlantic Division. Providence is on a four-game winning streak and is 9-1-0-0 in its last ten games. This weekend's contests at Scope are the first matchups between the Admirals and Bruins this season. Norfolk travels to Providence for games on April 14th and April 21st.

This weekend's set of games will be just the fifth and sixth games between the clubs in the last four years.

Jamie Tardif is tied with former Admiral Tyler Johnson for the AHL lead in goals (26). Out of Tardif's 26 goals, 12 have came on the power play, which is good for second in the league. Since being returned on loan from Boston, Tardif has five goals in five games. Ryan Spooner's 27 assists tie him for 14th in the league. Bobby Robins leads the AHL in penalty minutes (237). Both Admirals goaltender Frederik Andersen and Providence goaltender Niklas Svedberg are ranked in the top three of save percentage and goals-against average for rookie goaltenders. Svedberg leads all rookie goaltenders and ranks second overall in the AHL with 24 wins.

Bruins captain Trent Whitfield played for the ECHL's Hampton Roads Admirals in 1998-99, posting 13 goals and 25 points in 19 regular season games before netting two goals in four Kelly Cup Playoff games. This season, he has appeared in 26 games with Providence, scoring three goals and seven points.

DUCKS ON A FIVE GAME WINNING STREAK

Owners of a five-game winning, the Anaheim Ducks (12-2-1, 25 points) have climbed to second place in the Western Conference. Former Admirals Patrick Maroon scored his first NHL goal in Anaheim's 3-2 shootout victory over Nashville last Saturday. Peter Holland then netted his second career NHL goal in Anaheim's 3-2 win over Columbus on Monday night. Kyle Palmieri has four goals and two assists in 15 games for the Ducks. His two game-winning goals rank ninth in the NHL.

VIKTOR FASTH SIGNS EXTENSION WITH ANAHEIM

The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they have signed goaltender Viktor Fasth to a two-year contract extension through the 2014-15 NHL season. Fasth made his North American professional debut with the Admirals last month, going 1-1-1 with with a 1.96 GAA and .914 SV%. Fasth has appeared in nine contests for Anaheim this season, posting a perfect 8-0-0 record (one no decision) with a 1.78 goals-against average (GAA) and a .933 save percentage (SV%). The 6-0, 186-pound netminder is just the third goaltender in NHL history to win his first eight-or-more career decisions (alsoRay Emery with Ottawa, an NHL record 9-0-0 from 2003-05; andBob Froesewith Philadelphia, 8-0-0 in Jan.1983). Co-leading the NHL in wins, Fasth also ranks sixth in GAA and tied for seventh in SV%.
