August 19, 2017 - International League (IL) - Norfolk Tides
Logan Schafer's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th inning helped the Tides outlast the Toledo Mud Hens 4-3 in front of 10,111 fans Saturday night at Harbor Park.
With the score knotted at 3-3 in the 12th, Drew Dosch opened the decisive inning with a double down the right field line, his third hit of the contest. Luis Sardinas then dropped a two-strike sacrifice bunt to advance Dosch to third, and Hens reliever Logan Kensing (2-3) countered by issuing an intentional walk to Mike Yastrzemski to put runners on first and third with one out. Schafer followed with a fly ball to medium right field that was deep enough to score Dosch, giving the Tides their 12th walk-off win of the season.
Dosch doubled twice and scored two runs as part of his three-hit night, giving him a league-best 32 doubles this season. He doubled home Pedro Álvarez in the second frame for Norfolk's first run of the contest, then scored later that inning on an RBI single from Sardinas.
Jimmy Yacabonis (4-0) earned the win with two perfect innings of relief, as Norfolk's bullpen yielded one hit over five shutout innings. Yacabonis, Donnie Hart and Andrew Faulkner combined to retire the final 13 batters of the contest - six of which came via strikeout.
Norfolk starter Gabriel Ynoa continued his resurgence since the All-Star break with another Quality Start, as he yielded three runs on five hits over seven innings of work. Ynoa struck out five without walking a batter, giving him 12 strikeouts without a walk over his last two starts. Ynoa has allowed three runs or less in six of his seven outings since the All-Star break, posting a 3.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts and just four walks over that span.
With the win, Norfolk upped its league-best record since July 20th to 19-10. The Tides also kept alive a stretch of eight consecutive unbeaten series, a stretch they will put on the line in the rubber match of the series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park. Alec Asher (3-2, 3.51) gets the start in that contest and will be opposed by left-hander Anthony Vasquez (7-7, 4.04), with first pitch set for 4:05.
