SAINT JOHN - Nathan Noel scored twice and added an assist to lead the Saint John Sea Dogs to a 5-1 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Sunday at Harbour Station.

Mathieu Joseph, Julien Gauthier and Samuel Dove-McFalls also scored for Saint John (43-13-5-1) while Jakub Zboril and Simon Bourque had two assists each.

Thomas Chabot became the Sea Dogs' all-time leader in assists by defencemen with a helper on Joseph's goal. It gave him 116 in his career, one more than previous record-holder Nathan Beaulieu. Captain Spencer Smallman is now Saint John's all-time leader in games played as he appeared in his 289th regular season contest, one more than Mike Thomas.

Mathias Laferriere netted the only goal for Cape Breton (34-25-2-2).

The Sea Dogs opened the scoring with a power play goal three minutes into the game.

Noel took a pass near the middle of the blueline, stepped into the slot and hammered a slap shot past the glove of Screaming Eagles' goalie Kyle Jessiman.

Joseph made it a 2-0 game with a power play strike of his own.

Thomas Chabot crushed a slap shot from the centre of the blueline that was stopped by Jessiman. Matthew Highmore was also denied on a rebound chance, but the puck bounced to the right side where Joseph snapped it into an empty net.

Cape Breton got one back on a man advantage four-and-a-half minutes into the second when Laferriere buried the rebound of a Massimo Carozza chance that had been stopped by Callum Booth.

But Gauthier answered ninety seconds later.

Smallman won a puck battle in the right corner and fed Noel in the circle. Noel moved it quickly to Gauthier in the slot. The Carolina Hurricanes' first-rounder rifled a heavy wrister beyond the blocker of Jessiman and inside the right post.

The Screaming Eagles earned a five-minute power play midway through the third period when Saint John's Kyle Ward was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for a check on Ross MacDougall. It became a two-minute, two-man advantage late in power play, but Cape Breton could not cut into its two-goal deficit.

Noel's second power play strike came with two-and-a-half minutes left.

The Chicago Blackhawks' prospect took a pass in the left circle and whistled a wrist shot past Jessiman's glove to make it a 4-1 game.

Dove-McFalls wrapped up the scoring twenty seconds later when his pass across the slot from the left boards deflected off of a Screaming Eagle player and under Jessiman.

Booth made 19 saves for the victory. Jessiman stopped 31 shots in a losing cause.

Noel's three points made him first star while Gauthier nabbed second star with his goal. Olivier LeBlanc, the former Sea Dogs captain who holds the same position with Cape Breton, was named third star in his final regular season game in Saint John.

The attendance was 5,173.

Saint John's next game is Tuesday, March 7th, at 7 p.m. against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office, or fans can save money and buy online .
