May 24, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Trailing 7-1 in the sixth, the Fresno Grizzlies sparked a late-inning comeback with an 8-7 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Monday night. The Grizzlies' offensive outburst was led by Jon Singleton, who homered twice and drove in five runs, the first five-RBI game of the season for a Grizz hitter.

Singleton (3-for-4) got the game started in the bottom of the first with two out when he blasted a pitch over the right field wall. It was Singleton's 11th home run of the year and his 26th RBI, leading Fresno in both categories.

The next half inning, Zach Walters hit a gap shot to right-center to tie the game 1-1.

Fresno starter Tommy Shirley lasted 3.1 innings as the Dodgers scored five times off of him in the fourth, rapping five hits including two doubles. Shirley walked one and struck out three. The five run inning tied the largest allowed by the Grizzlies this season.

In the fifth inning, the Dodgers' batters were patient at the plate, drawing three walks, one of them leading to a run. That extended their lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Grizzlies started to chip away. Singleton (double) and Matt Duffy (single, 2-for-5) had back-to-back RBI, cutting the lead to 7-3.

Andrew Aplin (2-for-4) continued the Grizz comeback with his sixth RBI of the year after doubling off of Casey Fien in the seventh inning.

Two batters later, Singleton continued his brilliant night by hitting his second home run of the game. His three-run homer tied it 7-7. The Grizzlies would rally in the ninth for their largest deficit overcome in a win this season.

In the visitor ninth, closer James Hoyt came in with runners at second and third and one out, striking out one batter, while the other hit a lazy fly ball to center. Hoyt's work in the jam would pay off in the bottom of the ninth when Jon Kemmer lined a walk off single with the bases loaded into right field to end the game. Hoyt (2-2) picked up the win while Jacob Rhame (0-2) took the loss in relief for OKC. The game-winning hit extended Kemmer's season-best hit streak to five, which also the current club-high.

Singleton ended the night tied for second in the PCL with 12 home runs, with a Fresno-best 30 RBI. Monday was also his second two-homer game of the year, along with April 21 at home against Salt Lake.

The Grizzlies six-run comeback is the largest of the season by three runs. Fresno is 4-0 when tied after seven innings this season and improved to 6-5 at home in one-run games in 2016.

The series resumes tomorrow with game two of four at 6:35 p.m. Probable starters are RHP Cesar Valdez (1-0, 3.00) for Fresno and Sam LeCure (2-1, 4.10) for Oklahoma City. The Grizzlies are currently at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno for an eight-game homestand through Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
