November 16, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL) - West Michigan Whitecaps
COMSTOCK PARK, MI -- Christmas light displays are being set up around the Fifth Third Ballpark parking areas in preparation for the Nite Lites annual holiday lights display, which is set to return to the ballpark for the 13th season. Michigan's largest Christmas light display will open to the public on Saturday, November 20 at 6 p.m. and run nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. through January 1.
The drive-through Nite Lites display is longer than a mile and includes more than 40 life-size animated figures, lighted trees and tunnels. Synchronized lights give life to a waving Frosty, a five-car train full of gifts, Santa carrying a huge sack of presents, Santa and his nine reindeer (a 160-foot long display), Santa casting a fishing line and reeling in a fish, and of course Santa pitching a baseball to an elf who hits it out of the park - every time. Every year new displays are added, so be sure to take the tour and see all the new highlights of the 2010 Nite Lites display! In all, more than one million lights will be sparkling at the ballpark.
Kids and kids at heart will also be able to visit with Santa Claus himself. Santa will be available from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, December 4 and 5; Thursday through Sunday, December 9-12; and again from Friday, December 17 through Thursday, December 23. There is no additional cost to visit with Santa Claus, but children and pets will have the opportunity to have their photos taken with Santa for a small fee.
Vehicles will enter from West River Drive at Fifth Third Ballpark's main entrance, circle around the stadium through the south parking lot and along the Grand River back to the exit onto West River Drive. The Nite Lites display is open from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. Admission is $12 per car, $18 per limo or motor home, $30 per mini bus and $60 per Greyhound bus.
The event is sponsored by 100.5 FM The River (listen to Christmas music on The River as you drive through!), AJ's Family Fun Center, gNetworks, Avid Marketing Solutions and the West Michigan Whitecaps. A portion of all profits will be donated to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
