Ninth-Inning Rally Lifts Riders to Second Straight Win

June 21, 2016 - Texas League (TL1) - Frisco RoughRiders News Release

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Joe Jackson delivered a go-ahead, two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday night, leading the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, to a 5-4 win over the Midland RockHounds at Security Bank Ballpark.

Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, the RoughRiders (39-31 overall, 1-0 second half) loaded the bases with one out against Jake Sanchez (3-4). After a Ronald Guzman pop out, Jackson came through with a two-out bloop single over the head of shortstop Franklin Barreto. Preston Beck and Andy Ibanez both crossed home to give the Riders a 5-4 lead.

Frisco held two other one-run leads in the game, thanks to Ryan Cordell's RBI single in the first and Alberto Triunfel's two-run double in the fourth. It was Triunfel's second straight game with a run-scoring double.

Midland (33-38, 0-1) also led by a run twice in the game. Matt Chapman and Barreto both hit solo home runs in the second inning to put Midland ahead 2-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Beau Taylor connected for a two-out, two-run double that drove in Tyler Marincov and J.P. Sportman, who tripled earlier in the inning, to push Midland back ahead, this time by the score of 4-3.

Reed Garrett went five innings for the RoughRiders and struck out a season-high six batters in a no-decision. Joe Filomeno (1-0) pitched two scoreless frames and faced the minimum in his first win with the RoughRiders and second overall this season. Viosergy Rosa reached base with a two-out walk in the ninth, but Filomeno promptly picked off pinch-runner Yairo Munoz attempting to steal second base for the final out.

The RoughRiders wrap up their four-game road series Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against the RockHounds. Southpaw Yohander Mendez (3-0, 2.88 ERA) is scheduled to start for Frisco against righty Daniel Gossett (0-2, 3.32 ERA). Fans can listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 5:55 p.m.
