OCT. 11, 2016 HURRICANES ASSIGN WALLMARK, CARRICK AND FLEURY TO CHARLOTTE Carolina sets 23-player roster CHARLOTTE, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that they have assigned forward Lucas Wallmark and defensemen Trevor Carrick and Haydn Fleury to Charlotte. The moves trim the NHL roster to the required 23-player limit.
In a corresponding move, the Checkers have assigned goaltender Daniel Altshuller and forward Mike Ferrantino to the ECHL's Florida Everblades. Forwards Mike Kirkpatrick and John McCarron have been released from their tryouts.
An updated Checkers roster, which is now stands at 24 players, is attached to this release. The team begins its regular season with a pair of road games against the Texas Stars on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15. The team will practice at Extreme Ice Center at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
About today's assignments:
* Wallmark, 21, begins his first professional season in North America after spending the three previous campaigns in the Swedish Elite League. Last season, Carolina's fourth-round pick in 2014 led his team in assists (24) and playoff goals (7). * An AHL All Star last season, Carrick, 22, ranks third all time amongst Checkers defensemen in assists (58) and points (74). He set career highs in all offensive categories last season, resulting in his first two games played at the NHL level with Carolina. * Fleury, 20, enters his rookie season with the Checkers. The seventh overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has represented Canada several times at the junior level, including the 2016 World Junior Championship.
