New York Titans And Wounded Warrior Project Host "Heroes Cup"

March 25, 2008 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Orlando Titans News Release

New York, NY - The New York Titans are proud to announce that the Titans will host the first annual "Heroes Cup" featuring Army vs. Navy on Saturday, April 26. The "Heroes Cup" begins at 5pm followed by an 8pm start time for the Titans' final game of the 2008 regular season. The Titans battle the defending champion Rochester Knighthawks.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization aimed at assisting those men and women of the United States armed forces who have been severely injured during the war on terrorism.

"The Titans are looking forward to be able to give back to the men and women who have served our nation," said Titans COO Timothy Kelly. "Wounded Warrior Project is an incredibly important organization and we're hoping this event will raise significant funds to support their cause. On top of that, we know the event will be fun for some Army and Navy alums to have the spotlight they deserve on the World's greatest stage."

The Army/Navy tradition is a special experience near and dear to those involved. More than 100 alumni lacrosse players from both the United States Military and Naval Academies will participate this year. Taking the field during this time of war, means even more than an on-field victory.

"Each of these men that step on the field have served their country. This game is deeper then just an Alumni game, it's a chance for these players, myself included to reignite that feeling of hunger and rivalry for the game again after many years; all the while knowing that we are raising money for a cause that we and many of our comrades face once returning home from war," stated former Army Lacrosse Team Captain and Wounded Warrior, John Fernandez.

The Wounded Warrior Project also offers services and programs like combat stress seminars, benefits and career counseling, adaptive sports opportunities and advocacy initiatives to aid in the transition from hospital bed to an independent productive life.
