New York Red Bulls Name Denis Hamlett Sporting Director

HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls announced today that Denis Hamlett has been named Sporting Director, effective immediately.

Hamlett will oversee all aspects of the New York Red Bulls sporting operations, which includes player acquisitions, scouting/support staffs and the soccer operations budget. He will also oversee the Red Bulls player development model, which includes New York Red Bulls II, Under-23 team and Red Bulls Academy.

"Denis has vast experience in Major League Soccer and an excellent understanding of our global philosophy," said Head of Global Soccer Oliver Mintzlaff. "We are confident that Denis has the vision to further our goal of winning MLS Cup."

The Costa Rica native has nearly 20 years of coaching experience, which includes two years with the Red Bulls serving as top assistant to Jesse Marsch (2015-2016) and two seasons as head coach of the Chicago Fire (2007-2008). Hamlett's tenure saw the Fire reach back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals. The second-round pick in the inaugural MLS Draft appeared in 31 games for the Colorado Rapids before retiring at the end of the 1996 season.
