New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - New York Red Bulls defender Kemar Lawrence, forward Anatole Abang, and Homegrown midfielder Derrick Etienne, Jr., departed this week to join their respective national teams ahead of FIFA competitions. Lawrence joins Jamaica, and Etienne Jr. will be with Haiti, for Copa America Centenario, while Abang joins camp with Cameroon ahead of a match against France.
Lawrence, an established part of the Reggae Boyz lineup, played in last Summer's Copa America and Gold Cup tournaments. Lawrence has appeared in 11 games this season for the Red Bulls. Jamaica's Copa scheduled kicks off with a match against Venezuela on June 5.
Abang joins Cameroon's camp ahead of a match against France on May 30. Abang earned his first senior call up in March for an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier, and earned his first cap in that match against South Africa. The forward has made five MLS appearances this season and also has three goals in four games on loan to New York Red Bulls II in the United Soccer League.
Etienne Jr., whose father and uncle both played for the Haitian National Team, will join the squad as a reserve player for the Copa America Centenario. Etienne Jr. has represented Haiti at a variety of youth levels, most notably in CONCACAF Championships at the Under-17 and U-20 levels. The Red Bulls Academy product signed as a Homegrown Player in December after one season at the University of Virginia. He has made nine appearances on loan to New York Red Bulls II this season, recording two goals and two assists.
The New York Red Bulls host Toronto FC this Saturday at Red Bull Arena before breaking while the Copa America Centenario is played across the United States. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with coverage on MSG, MSG GO and Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
