New York Liberty News Release

NEW YORK, NY - April 16, 2012 - The New York Liberty have drafted center Kelley Cain from Tennessee in the first round, with the seventh overall selection, and guard/forward Katelan Redmon from Gonzaga in the third round, with the 36th selection, of the 2012 WNBA Draft.

"We are pleased to add Kelley and Katelan to the Liberty," General Manager and Head Coach John Whisenant said. "Kelley is a Parade All-American who excelled at Tennessee and is now playing well overseas. We accomplished one of our goals in acquiring a post player with size, great hands and impressive footwork.

"The addition of Katelan brings us an athletic player from a great offensive system. Both players are very coachable and fundamentally sound with a tremendous upside and will be a good fit for us as we continue on our mission to win a WNBA Championship," Whisenant added.

Cain, a 6-6 center, played three seasons with Tennessee averaging 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on her career. The Atlanta-native finished with the third best field-goal percentage in Tennessee history (.606). As a senior, during the 2010-11 season, she averaged 7.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game. She led the Southeastern Conference in blocks in her final two seasons with 228 in 92 games. Cain spent this past season with Gure Belediyes in Turkey.

Redmon, a 6-1 guard/forward, began her collegiate career at the University of Washington where she was named to the Pacific-10 All-Freshman Team, leading the squad in scoring (11.8 ppg). She played her final two collegiate seasons at Gonzaga, transferring after a red-shirt sophomore season, averaging 14.0 points, 5.2 rebound and shooting .530 from the field. In her final season she was named to the All-West Coast Conference Team becoming one of five players in Gonzaga history to score 600 or more points in a season, finishing with 600.

Liberty fans can catch the team's newest additions in action at the regular season home-opener against the Connecticut Sun at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, May 19 at 4pm. Single game tickets are available starting today. Season tickets and partial plans can be purchased by calling 212-465-6766 or by visiting NYLiberty.com.

The Liberty will call Prudential Center home for the second of three seasons in 2012 while Madison Square Garden continues its historic, top-to-bottom Transformation. Prudential Center is a convenient 15 minutes away from The Garden by train.
