Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(New Britain, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (7-14) were defeated by the New Britain Bees (9-12) 5-2 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday night in a game that was called off by the umpiring crew after six and a half innings of play. Bridgeport concludes the series and their six game road trip tomorrow afternoon with a single admission doubleheader as each contest is slated for seven innings in the Hardware City.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher R.J. Hively (0-3) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out five in five innings of work. New Britain Starting Pitcher Josh Outman (1-2) picked up his first win of 2016, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out four through six innings on the mound. Brandon Fry retired the side in order on three ground balls to notch his first save of the campaign.

New Britain took the early 1-0 lead off Hively in the home half of the first inning on a run scoring single by former Bluefish Jovan Rosa, plating James Skelton with the game's first run after he opened up the offensive night for the home team with a free pass. Bridgeport took their first lead of the night in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runs off Outman. Ruben Sosa Jr. singled to open up the frame, his second base knock of the evening. The Bluefish table setter also singled with one out in the third inning, extending his on base streak to a team high 19 consecutive games. With two out, Dan Johnson laced a run scoring single to right, driving in Sosa Jr. to cut the deficit in half. With Johnson in motion, Wilkin Ramirez laced a double that split the outfileders and rolled all the way to the wall in left center, enabling Johnson to come home and give the 'Fish their first lead of the night at 2-1.

New Btitain would answer right back in the bottom of the fifth again off Hively with a two out rally. Brandon Chaves and James Skelton drew back to back walks, and both came in to score on a two run double off the bat of Greg Golson, and in the blink of an eye the Bees had their second advantage of the night at 3-2. New Britain would add an insurance run in the sixth on a leadoff opposite field home run by Jonathan Roof that cleared over the right field wall off Bridgeport reliever Joseph Kuzia. Roof's first roundtripper of the season gave the Bees their largest lead of the night at 5-2. After Bluefish reliever Scott Shuman issued a walk to Golson to kick off the bottom of the seventh, the umpires called for the tarp to be placed on the field. Following a rain delay twenty five minutes and no end in sight of Mother Nature cooperating, the game was called and Bridgeport's two game winning streak came to a close.
