Nelson Molina joins Kernels from Extended Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that INF Nelson Molina will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training and INF Manuel Guzman has been placed on the 7-day DL with a right quad strain. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Molina in the 11th round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft out of Antonio Lucchetti (PR) High School and he spent last season at Elizabethton where he hit .207 (24-116) with a HR and 10 RBI in 37 games.

Guzman played in nine games for the Kernels, batting .172 (5-29) with all nine games played either at second base or shortstop.

Molina is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. South Bend. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players with five players currently on the DL.

The Kernels continue a six game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM against the South Bend Cubs, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free Kernels Minions baseball cap as part of Minions Movie Night. It's also 98.1 KHAK Kernels Friday Mug Club. Gates tonight open at 5:30 PM and the home stand continues through Sunday, May 1st.
