Ned Crotty's 8-Point Performance Rallies Rattlers to 18-14 Victory over Hounds

ROCHESTER, NY - The Charlotte Hounds on Saturday afternoon fell to the Rochester Rattlers 18-14 at Wegmans Sports Complex. The Hounds led by as much as five goals before the Rattlers rallied back. Ned Crotty was named Coca-Cola Player of the Game following an eight-point (3g, 5a) performance. Meanwhile, the Hounds were lead by Ryan Brown and Joey Sankey with six points apiece.

Mike Chanenchuk picked up right where he left off before the All-Star Break to open the scoring for the Hounds. Brown and Kevin Cunningham then scored two minutes apart to give Charlotte an early 3-0 lead. Jeremy Boltus ended the Hounds' three-goal run and put the Rattlers on the board with 2:50 remaining in the opening quarter. Hounds captain John Haus and Rattlers attackman Jordan Wolf traded goals to end the first quarter with a 4-2 lead for the visitors.

Brown opened up the second quarter with back-to-back goals to extend the Hounds lead to 6-2. Chanenchuk notched his second of the afternoon to make is 7-2 Hounds with 10:39 to play in the first half. Kip Orban cut the lead to 7-3 only 36 seconds later to keep the Rattlers in reach, but Sankey regained the five-goal lead halfway through the quarter. Rochester then rallied and scored five-straight goals over the last seven minutes, with Orban picking up his second of the afternoon, as well as two goals apiece from Crotty and John Ranagan to tie the game at eight heading into halftime.

The Rattlers continued their hot streak into the third quarter. After almost eight minutes of scoreless play, Boltus tallied back-to-back goals to give the Rattlers their first lead of the game. Brown ended Rochester's seven-goal run with his fourth goal to cut the lead to 10-9. Boltus answered with his fourth of the afternoon to restore the two-goal advantage. Sankey scored his second of the game with 2:44 to go in the quarter to keep the Hounds within one heading into the final quarter.

The teams traded goals in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. Jesse King's second goal of the quarter gave Rochester a two-goal lead with 11 minutes to play. Haus brought the Hounds back within one less than two minutes later to make it a 13-12 Rattlers lead. Brown and Kyle Denhoff traded goals before Crotty and Donny Moss scored back-to-back to put Rochester up 16-13. Brown's sixth goal of the day kept the Hounds in striking distance with less than four minutes to go, but Wolf and Mike Manley each scored in the final two minutes to seal the 18-14 victory for the Rattlers.

Hounds goaltender Charlie Cipriano made 13 saves on 21 shots, while Rattlers goalie John Galloway stopped 16 of 30 shots. The Rattlers also dominated at the faceoff X, where Drew Simoneau was 24-36 compared to Brendan Fowler's 12-36 performance.

The Hounds (6-4) return home to American Legion Memorial Stadium next weekend for a doubleheader. Charlotte will first host the Florida Launch (2-7) on Friday, July 22, as a makeup for the June 18 game that was postponed due to severe storms in the Boca Raton area. The game was moved to Memorial Stadium following scheduling conflicts with the Launch's home field at FAU Stadium. The Hounds then face the Denver Outlaws (4-6) for the first time this season on Saturday, July 23. Both games are scheduled for 7:30pm faceoffs.
