NBA Vet Chucky Brown Named Dazzle Assistant Coach

GREENVILLE, S.C., October 6 – Chucky Brown has been named assistant coach for the Roanoke Dazzle, according to an announcement today by Chris Alpert, director of basketball operations for the NBA’s National Basketball Development League. Brown replaces Mike Brown, who was named head coach of the Fayetteville Patriots.

A 13-year NBA veteran, Brown played in 694 NBA games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Sharing the record with Tony Massenburg for most NBA teams played for in a career with 12, Brown averaged 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Brown was head coach of the Raleigh Knights of the World Basketball Association in the summer of 2004, leading the team to a 12-8 finish and the semi-finals of the leagueÂ’s postseason play. The Knights finished the season as the hottest team in the WBA, winning their final six games.

Brown, 36, will team up with veteran Dazzle head coach Kent Davison, who is entering his fourth season in Roanoke. He has previous experience with the NBAÂ’s minor league, serving as a player mentor for the Fayetteville Patriots.

The Dazzle opens the 2004-05 season Nov.19 by playing host to the Fayetteville Patriots.
