Tacoma Navigators News Release

(TACOMA, WA)-The Tacoma Navigators professional basketball team held off a furious rally by the Bellingham Slam in the game's closing minutes for a 110-107 victory Saturday night at Mt. Tahoma High School in front of the Navs biggest home crowd of the 2005-06 ABA season.

After a well-played, back-and-forth first half that saw seven lead changes, the Slam took a 53-47 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Tacoma closed the margin in the third quarter with 5-of-6 three-point shooting and gained the lead for good early in the fourth period. Navigators head coach Vincent Askew's potent offense was slowed by Bellingham's trapping defense that trimmed a 14-point Tacoma lead with four minutes remaining to just three with less than 5 seconds left in regulation. Bellingham forward, Craig Roosendal, nearly tied the game with an improbable, heads-up play on his team's final possession. While inbounding the ball from in front of the Bellingham bench, Roosendal bounced it off of Tacoma guard Rashaad Powell's leg, then recovered his own pass and launched a three-pointer that drew iron and caromed out of bounds with 1.6 seconds left.

Leading scorers for Tacoma were Jamal Miller (31), Rashaad Powell (28) and Kenny Tate (17); and Caleb Gervin (28) and Craig Roosendal (22) for Bellingham. Top rebounders were Powell (9) for Tacoma and Brian Dennis (11) for the Slam. Tacoma remained unbeaten at 2-0 while Bellingham slipped to 1-4 after its grueling three-games-in-three-nights road trip last weekend to southern California.
