Nationals Acquire Former All-Star Cahill
The Hamilton Nationals have acquired midfielder Martin Cahill from the Boston Cannons in exchange for their fifth-round pick in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft.
"Martin is a player who we are going to give an opportunity to play here in Hamilton. He was a 16-goal scorer two years ago, and we're hoping he will take advantage of the early season playing time, while our NLL guys are unavailable," said Nationals General Manager Stu Brown.
Cahill enters his fourth season in the MLL in 2013 after playing for teams in Chicago, Rochester and Boston. In 25 games, he has 21 goals and two assists for 23 points. His finest season was in 2011 with the Rochester Rattlers. Cahill had a breakout season, scoring 16 goals and earning a spot in the MLL All-Star Game. The native of Malden, Mass. was originally drafted ninth overall in the 2010 MLL Draft by the Chicago Machine.
In his college career (2007-10), Cahill earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors three times at the University of Delaware. He finished with 92 goals and 17 assists to become just the 31st player in school history to reach the 100-point mark as a senior in 2010.
The Nationals will kick off their 2013 schedule on Saturday, May 4th against the Boston Cannons. The home opener is set for Saturday, May 11th against the New York Lizards. For further information, go online to www.nationalslacrosse.com.
