Nailers Release Protective List

Wheeling Nailers News Release
Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced that 13 players have been placed on the team's "protected list." ECHL teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish provided they meet the guidelines as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association.
The players on the Nailers protected list include: Kyle Bushee, Aaron Clarke, Sean Collins, Chris Davis, Jordan Fox, Mitch Ganzak, Bobby Jarosz, Cleve Kinley, Andrew Lord, Colin Power, Billy Ryan, Kevin Schmidt and Ryan Smyth.
Teams are allowed to sign players on their own protected list up until July 1. At that time, teams will be able to make Qualifying Offers to as many as eight players for the 2010-11 season.
As defined in Article 1 of the ECHL/PHPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams shall retain the Rights to each Player that:
1. Signed an SPC in 2009-10 with the Member, and has not been traded or released, OR
2. Signed an SPC in 2009-10, and was recalled to the NHL/AHL or IIHF team, and has not been traded or released, OR
3. Had received a Qualifying Offer last summer for the current season, DID NOT sign an SPC, and has not been traded or released, OR
4. Has been suspended by the Member or League, and has not been traded or released, OR
5. Signed an SPC on or after the first day of the 2009-10 regular season, then subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or released, OR
6. Has executed the ECHL Retirement Form, and has not been traded or released
The Wheeling Nailers and WAHA 4th Annual Charity Steak Fry will take place on Saturday, June 26th at the Wheeling Park Memorial Ice Rink from 6-11pm. Tickets are just $20 for adults, $7 for kids. The Wheeling Nailers schedule for the upcoming season is expected to be announced within the next few days. Come see future Pittsburgh Penguins start their careers in Wheeling! The Nailers will open training camp in early October with the 19th season of professional hockey in the Friendly City to commence shortly after that.
