Williams And Young Join Manchester Wolves In 2009
MANCHESTER, NH-Deyon Williams and DeQwan Young, both of whom are expected to be impact players on the Manchester Wolves in 2009, have been assigned to the arenafootball2 franchise by the league.
Young (5-7, 180) started all 11 games in the defensive backfield in each of his four seasons at St. Joseph's and finished his career in 2007 with 15 interceptions, 196 tackles, and 57 passed defended. He was an All-Star in the Division II Cactus Bowl and was selected to the First Team All-Great Lakes Football Conference and the Second Team All-Northwest Region squads.
He is projected to play both defensive back and wide receiver for Manchester, which is building upon the most successful season in team history after making it all the way to the American Conference Finals in 2008.
"DeQwan was a highly productive college player," said Wolves Head Coach Danton Barto. "I believe his skills should translate very well to the arena game."
Williams (6-3, 196) had a breakout year as a starting wide receiver at the University of Virginia in 2005 and was named Honorable Mention All-ACC, missing the Second Team by one vote. After sitting out the first four games with a foot injury as a senior the following season, he finished his collegiate career with 95 receptions for 1,237 yards (average 13.0) and scored 10 touchdowns. He also carried the ball three times for 26 yards.
"Deyon has the potential to be a huge impact player for us this upcoming season," said Barto, who is entering his second season as the Wolves head coach. "I believe he has all the tools to be a dominant arena receiver."
The Wolves will play their sixth season in Manchester on The Acting Loft Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in 2009 and the 16-game regular arenafootball2 league season runs from March through July.
Season ticket packages are now on sale through firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 603-627-9654 (WOLF). Individual game tickets and group sales packages are also available and the league will announce the full schedule in November.
