Billings Mustangs News Release

BILLINGS, Montana - The Billings Mustangs (11-8, 34-23) lost their fourth consecutive game Saturday, falling 7-6 to the Missoula Osprey (9-10, 25-32) in front of 3,137 at Dehler Park.

Scott Moss was outstanding in the start for Billings, pitching six innings of shutout baseball. Moss would strike out seven and walk just one, setting new season-highs for himself in both innings pitched and strikeouts.

Billings claimed an early lead, scoring multiple runs in both the fourth and fifth. Hector Vargas and John Sansone hit back-to-back homeruns in the fourth off Kai-Wei Lin. For Vargas, the two-run job was his fourth of the season while Sansone's solo homer was the third of his professional career.

The Mustangs extended their 3-0 lead with two more runs in the fifth. T.J. Friedl and Jose Siri each picked up hits off Lin to start the inning and came in to score later on a throw down to second and a fielder's choice, respectively. That stretched it out to a 5-0 advantage, the Mustangs' largest lead of the night.

Missoula pulled within one in the seventh when they scored four runs on five hits. Keenan Kish was unable to make it out of the inning, giving up a double and four singles while just recording two outs. Patrick Riehl (3-2) then got Jasrado Chisholm to pop out to maintain the lead at 5-4 to finish the inning. That is how the score would stay into the ninth.

Riehl, who was brought back for the top of the ninth for the save, walked Bryan Araiza to start the inning as Missoula began its late rally. Kal Simmons followed with an RBI double to tie the game and scored when Gabriel Maciel doubled right behind him. The Osprey took a 7-5 lead to the bottom of the ninth.

Billings refused to go down quietly however, getting the tying run into scoring position in the ninth. Jose Siri laced a two-out single to the third baseman Yan Sanchez and scored on the RBI single of Taylor Trammell. Trammell advanced to second on a throwing error by Chisholm. He would be stranded there, however, as the Osprey held on for the win, their third straight.

The Mustangs will try to snap their four-game losing streak Sunday at Dehler Park. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
