MUSKETEERS RALLY FOR 5-4 WIN OVER STEEL SATURDAY Clark Cup Final to be decided Tuesday night at Sioux City
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Sioux City Musketeers rallied late in the third period Saturday in Game 4 of the USHL Clark Cup Final to defeat the Chicago Steel, 5-4, in front of 2,159 fans at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The best-of-five series is now tied, 2-2, with a decisive Game 5 set for Tuesday night in Sioux City, Iowa.
Eeli Tolvanen and Kristian Pospisil each scored in the final three minutes of regulation to lead the Musketeers back from a 4-3 deficit.
Chicago jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Mitch Lewandowski sent a picture-perfect shot over the right shoulder of Musketeers goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks for a power play goal at 10:06. Less than two minutes later, Jake Jaremko registered his first of the night. Kivlenieks made a terrific save on Reggie Lutz, but Jaremko jammed in the rebound at 11:53.
The Musketeers came back to tie the game, 2-2, off second period goals from Aapeli Rasanen and Phillip Knies. But the Steel responded to regain a two-goal lead; Jaremko tallied his second of the night at 10:58, with Lutz once again recording the primary assist. Lutz then scored a goal of his own, a one-timer from the right circle for Chicago's second power play goal of the night at 18:47.
However, the Musketeers climbed back within a goal before the second intermission when Odeen Tufto fired a low shot past Stezka 44 seconds prior to the break.
In the third period, Sioux City turned up the heat, tripling the Steel in shots, 12-4. Tolvanen tied the game with 2:53 remaining, sliding a backhanded breakaway shot through Stezka's five hole. Then, with just 69 seconds remaining, Pospisil completed the comeback, blasting a shot from the right wing past the glove of Stezka.
The series will be decided Tuesday, May 23 at Sioux City with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff at Tyson Events Center.
