Muskegon Lumberjacks Acquire Three Players for Trevor Hamilton

Muskegon, MI - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced a trade with the Chicago Steel, in which Muskegon has acquired Grant Gabriele , Lucas Michaud, affiliate player Kenny Johnson, and a 2016 Futures 5th round draft pick for Trevor Hamilton and a 2016 Futures 3rd round draft pick.

Gabriele, a Brighton, Michigan native, is currently in his third season in the United States Hockey League, and has totaled four goals and nine assists in 38 games with the Chicago Steel and Omaha Lancers this season. The Western Michigan University commit was traded from Omaha to Chicago six games into the season.

Prior to his time with Omaha, the 6'2" 171 pound defenseman was a member of the United States National Team Development U17 and U18 Program. The 1997 birth year spent his youth hockey days playing for Belle Tire, Compuware, and Victory Honda. Gabriele was drafted by the Omaha Lancers in sixth round of the 2013 USHL Futures Draft, and was listed as a C-rated prospect by the NHL Central Scouting Service for the upcoming 2016 NHL Entry Draft in both September and November.

Michaud, a South Portland, Maine native, is currently in his first season in the United Sates Hockey League. In 36 games, the University of Maine commit has scored four goals and notched five assists. The 5'11" 205 pound forward played for the Portland Jr. Pirates in USPHL last season, and registered 22 goals and 33 assists in 49 games. Michaud, a 1997 birth year, played youth hockey for Berwick Academy before moving to the Portland Jr. Pirates organization. Michaud was drafted by the Chicago Steel in the first round of the 2015 USHL Phase 2 Entry Draft.

Johnson, a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, joins the Lumberjacks as an affiliate player. Currently, the 6'3" 214 pound defenseman is playing for Shattuck St. Mary's Prep, the same school that the USHL leading scorer and Lumberjacks veteran, Rem Pitlick, played for during his youth hockey days. Johnson has played in 32 games, totaling five goals and 20 assists at Shattuck this season. The Chicago Steel drafted Johnson in the sixth round of the 2014 USHL Futures Draft.

Kenny Johnson is the brother of NHL veteran Jack Johnson, and the son of former Michigan State Spartan Jack Johnson. The 1998 birth year is in his first year of NHL Draft eligibility, and is committed to play college hockey for the University of Michigan, following his junior hockey career.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks would like to thank Trevor Hamilton for all he has done for the organization, and wish him good luck during the remainder of his USHL career. Hamilton spent two seasons with the Lumberjacks totaling, 15 goals and 37 assists in 76 games. Following the end of this USHL season, the defenseman and former Lumberjacks captain will attend Penn State University.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks (14-15-4) are getting set for a one game weekend. The Lumberjacks will travel to Nebraska to take on the Lincoln Stars (21-17-1) on Friday, January 29th, at 8:05 p.m. Muskegon will return home the following weekend for a two game series with the Bloomington Thunder (20-11-3). Both games will start at 7:15 p.m. as the Lumberjacks will host Dollar Beer and Dollar Dog Night on Friday, and then finish the weekend with Beard and College Night on Saturday.
