Carolina Mudcats News Release

FREDERICK, M.D. - The Mudcats lost a six run lead in the eighth while dropping the first game of a four game series in Frederick 11-9 on Friday night at Nymeo Field. Corey Ray was 3-for-6 with two run scoring doubles and Isan Diaz was 2-for-5 with a two-run double for Carolina in the loss.

Carolina (9-11) led 9-3 after their half of the eighth, but the game flipped when Frederick (10-11) erased the six run deficit by scoring eight runs on five hits in the bottom half. The Keys scored twice against Quintin Torres-Costa and then went on to rally for six runs (two earned) against Jon Olczak while taking an 11-9 lead.

All eight runs were scored with two outs in the eighth and only two were earned to Olczak (0-1, 8.22). Trent Clark was charged with a catching error in left during the comeback rally and the Keys followed with run scoring hits from Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle and Jomar Reyes.

Hayes was 1-for-5 and his RBI single in the eighth cut the Carolina lead down to one. Mountcastle was 1-for-4 with two runs, his single to right tied the game at 9-9. Reyes was 2-for-5 with the go-ahead hit to right that went on to plate two for the Keys to give them the 11-9 advantage.

Josh Hart and Ricardo Andujar also had run scoring hits in the eighth for the Keys. Andujar's was a groundball double near first base that was ruled fair by home plate umpire Ronnie Whiting. The call was contested by Mudcats manager Joe Ayrault, resulting in his first ejection of the season
