Mother's Day 2010 is Pink Day at Cheney Stadium

May 3, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - On Sunday, May 9, at 12:30pm, the Tacoma Rainiers will open the gates to Cheney Stadium for Pink Day at the park. Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Puget Sound will be recognized throughout the game in an effort to create awareness and generate exposure for the organization.

Each year, over 192,000 women and nearly 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Puget Sound Affiliate was founded in 1992 and has given over $20 million to area nonprofit organizations who serve our community with education, screening, and treatment support.

In honor of this special day, the Rainiers will be wearing pink jerseys. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Jeri Worklan, co-chair of the 2010 Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure Survivor Celebration and an 11-year breast cancer survivor.

$5.05 from each Pink Day ticket sold will go to benefit the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Rainiers are also donating proceeds from an in-game auction of each game-worn pink jersey.

75 percent of the funds raised by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Puget Sound stay local and go towards education, screening and treatment. The remaining 25 percent goes into a national pool that pays for cutting-edge breast cancer research.
