Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: December 2, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are thrilled to announce they have been assigned fullback/linebacker David Morrill by the af2.

“David is a tough hardnosed player that is big and physical,” said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. “He is very tough on both sides of the ball and helps our chances of winning football games.”

Morrill (mo-rail) is another player to follow Coach Guy from Tennessee Valley. The 6’3” 254-pound Warren, Oregon native played his first season of professional football last season with the Vipers and led the team in rushing with 44 yards off 26 carries (4 TDs) in 12 games. On defense, Morrill ranked fifth on the squad in tackles (20.5) and co-led the team in tackles (3.5). He also had a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Before joining the pro ranks, the 24 year-old Morrill was a college standout at Western Oregon University (Monmouth, OR). Morrill was at WOU from 1998-2002 and was a three-time all-conference first team member (2000,2001, 2002) and two-time All-West Regional honoree by three different media sources (2001,2002). He completed his college career as a linebacker and registered a school record 345 tackles (165 solo) and also garnered 9.5 sacks and 7 forced fumbles. The Physical Education major participated in the 2002 Cactus Bowl, which is a NCAA Div. II all-star game conducted annually in Kingsville, Texas. Morrill prepped at Scappoose High in Oregon, where he was a three-time first team All-Cowapa League selection at running back and linebacker. He earned all-state honors (3A) as a senior in 1998 on both offense and defense with 1,506 rushing yards and 117 tackles, which also earned him Cowapa League Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Morrill is the third player assigned to the Dorados 2005 roster, and he joins John Bradley (OL/DL) and Josh Kellett (QB) who both come to Rio Grande Valley from Tennessee Valley. Media members seeking an interview with Morrill or Coach Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-227-4940.
