Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - The Tampa Yankees (8-2) won their seventh consecutive game by defeating the Dunedin Blue Jays (7-3) on Saturday night, 4-2. RHP Domingo Acevedo struck out a career-high 12 batters, but did not factor in the decision.
Acevedo lasted six innings and came out to pitch the seventh with a two-run lead. Surrendering one hit to that point, RF Jonathan Davis bunted to bring DH Ryan McBroom to the plate as the tying run. McBroom launched a home run to left-center, knocking Acevedo out of the game and tying the game at two.
The Yankees came right back in the eighth against RHP Adonys Cardona (L, 1-2). With two outs in the innings, 2B Thairo Estrada struck out, but reached base on a dropped third strike wild pitch. After a walk, LF Zack Zehner singled to right, bringing home both baserunners after Davis fumbled the ball in the outfield.
RHP Chris Rowley clocked in with a quality start, allowing two runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out four. RHP Matt Marsh (W, 6-1) worked around trouble in the eighth along with a clean seventh to earn the win while RHP Dillon McNamara (S, 6) picked up the save.
The Jays look to avoid a sweep at the hands of Tampa on Sunday night. RHP Sean Reid-Foley battles LHP Josh Rogers. Hometown USA is a free event with gates opening at 5:15 PM.
