Moran Receives Honor

Crunch center Brad Moran received one of the biggest honors an individual can receive on Friday, February 25 when the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League retired his number 20, the first Hitmen player to receive the honor. Moran, who spent the 1995-96 – 1999-00 seasons with the Hitmen, is Calgary’s franchise leader in goals (204), assists (244), points (448) and games played (357). A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Moran leads the Crunch in scoring this season with 21 goals and 44 points. He enters this week trailing only Lonny Bohonos on the Crunch’s all-time points (230 to 213) and goals lists (104 to 93). Moran (120 assists) is third on the all-time assist list, trailing Mark Wotton (124 assists) and Bohonos (126 assists). The Crunch’s all-time leader in games played (312), power play goals (37) and short-handed goals (9), Moran was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round, 191st overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft. He signed as a free agent with Columbus on June 5, 2000.

MOTZKO MATCHES ROOKIE POINT TOTALS: Right wing Joe Motzko matched his point total from a season ago, recording his 41st point in his 58th game on February 28 in Rochester. Motzko, who recorded 17 goals and 24 assists in 70 games as a rookie last season, has the same totals through 58 games this year.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Syracuse enters this week four points behind the Edmonton Road Runners for fourth place in the North Division. Edmonton (63 points) has 24 games remaining (8 home, 16 road), compared to Syracuse’s 22 games remaining (13 home, 9 road). Hamilton (59 points), currently tied with the Crunch for fifth, has 22 games remaining (12 home, 10 road). Cleveland (56 points) trails both Syracuse and Hamilton by three points with 22 games remaining (11 home, 11 road).

THIS WEEK’S OPPONENTS:

ALBANY (NEW JERSEY DEVILS): Syracuse hosts Albany on Friday, March 4 for the fourth and final regular season meeting between the teams this season. Syracuse leads the series 3-0, after shutting out Albany 1-0 on December 3 at Pepsi Arena. Center Mark Hartigan (2g, 2a) leads all players with four points in head-to-head scoring. Right wing Aaron Voros (1g, 2a) and left wing Dean McAmmond (1g, 2a) lead the River Rats in head-to-head scoring with three points. Karl Goehring has recorded all three victories for Syracuse, posting a 1.29 gaa and a .955 save percentage. Ari Ahonen has appeared in two games for Albany, posting a 0-2-0 record, a 2.00 gaa and a .922 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 38-34-9 against the River Rats.

EDMONTON (EDMONTON OILERS): On Saturday, March 5 Edmonton visits Syracuse for the third of four regular season meetings between the teams this season. Edmonton leads the series 2-0 after defeating Syracuse 4-3 on November 3 at Rexall Place. Defenseman Francois Beauchemin (3a) leads all Crunch players with three points in head-to-head scoring. Right wing Brad Winchester (2g, 1a) leads the Road Runners with three points in head-to-head scoring. Pascal Leclaire appeared in both games for Syracuse with a 0-1-1 record, a 2.41 gaa and a .928 save percentage. Tyler Moss appeared in both games for Edmonton, posting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.92 gaa and a .920 save percentage. Lifetime, Syracuse is 2-5-1 against Edmonton.

Celebrity Bartending at Trapper’s Pizza: The Labatt’s celebrity bartending series concludes on Tuesday, March 1, when Crunch players Mark Hartigan, Aaron Johnson and Greg Mauldin will serve as bartenders at Trapper’s Pizza Pub from 5-7 p.m.

Pandolfo and Reich to Visit Advance Auto Parts: On Wednesday, March 2 Crunch players Mike Pandolfo and Jeremy Reich will be at Advance Auto Parts in Cicero from 5-6 p.m. to sign autographs.

Bob Evans Team Photo Night Saturday, March 5: The Syracuse Crunch announced today that their Saturday, March 5 game against Edmonton will be Bob Evans Team Photo Night.

He has missed 37 games with the injury… Right wing Brandon Sugden is expected to miss two-to-three weeks with a thumb injury.
