Manitoba Moose News Release

For the second night in a row the Moose sacrificed the first goal but answered with five to beat the Houston Aeros Saturday night at the MTS Centre in front of 7098 fans. Dirk Southern, Daniel Rahimi and Darryl Bootland registered their first goals of the season while Cory Schneider stopped 21 attempts for his fourth consecutive win.

Moose turned Aero, Jesse Schultz was called with the first penalty of the night for cross-checking, but the home team wasn't able to capitalize on the opportunity and failed to record a shot against goaltender Barry Brust.

At 7:04 defenseman Shaun Heshka was penalized for holding and before it expired Cory Schneider was dealt a delay of game penalty, putting the Aeros on a two-man advantage. With one penalty down, Aeros winger Krys Kolanos wrapped around Schneider's net and snuck one in putting his club in the first lead of the game.

Two hooking penalties to Ryan Hamilton and John Adams put the Moose on the power play in the latter half of the first, but even with the advantage the Moose weren't able to register a first shot on Brust.

With less than a minute left, Darryl Bootland and Ryan Hamilton had some unfinished business from yesterday's contest and dropped their gloves in the visitors end. After dropping to the ice, both men received five-minute majors for fighting.

Fired up from failing to score in the first, the Moose netted their first of the game at 1:48 of the second. With a clean pass from Jason Jaffray, Dirk Southern snapped it past Brust for his first of the season, evening the score at one.

Less than a minute later, Daniel Rahimi gave the Moose some extra breathing room with an unassisted goal, also his first of the season, putting the Moose on top of the Aeros, 2-1.

Now outshooting Houston 16-10, the Moose broke Manitoba-born Brust for the third time with a blast from Michael Grabner.

At 16:22 the Moose widened the gap even further when Mike Keane chipped the puck to Darryl Bootland who slapped it past Brust for his first of the season, putting the white team up 4-1 over the visitors.

Minutes later, a few strong saves courtesy of Schneider temporarily stalled Houston's offense, but Dane Crowley found an opening, firing a slapshot from the point and hitting the mesh, 4-2.

The third period would bring an early man-advantage for the Moose as Maxim Noreau got a high-sticking call at 1:48. The clock ticked down on the two-minute penalty and the Moose put extra pressure on Brust by extending their lead in shots 24-16.

With the game sitting at 4-2 and seemingly destined for a Moose victory, Marco Rosa scored with three minutes left on the clock to change the pass of play.

After intense final minutes and acrobatic saves by Schneider the clock would run out of time before the Aeros could tie it up and Darryl Bootland netted his second of the night on an empty net to confirm the win, 5-3.
