Moose once again Go Pink in October for "Keeping Abreast"

October 1, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

For the second consecutive season, the Manitoba Moose have announced they are devoting their October games to breast cancer awareness and to raise money for that cause throughout the month of October with a number of special giveaways and the sale of some new unique collectibles, such as specialty pucks, pins, and sticks at all October Moose games.

Beginning on Saturday, October 3rd when the Moose take on the Houston Aeros and during each of the remaining seven home games during the month, the team will wear a pink ribbon decal on the back of their helmets.

Also throughout the entire month of October, three members of the Moose will use "pink" hockey sticks in each game which will be auctioned off at each of the home games. Goaltender Cory Schneider, defenceman Nolan Baumgartner, and captain Mike Keane will each have one of their game-used sticks auctioned off, two per game and three on Ladies Night. At the end of the game, the winners will have the opportunity to meet each of these players and have their winning pink stick signed.

The Moose have also designed a series of special collectible Manitoba Moose Pink Ribbon Pucks which feature pictures of Mike Keane, Nolan Baumgartner, Cory Schneider, Guillaume Desbiens, Alexandre Bolduc, and Mario Bliznak. One puck will be featured each night and will be sold on the concourse of MTS Centre at a price of $10.00/puck. The entire series will be available in the Moose Off the Rack Store at a price of $50.00/series of six pucks. Then on Sunday, October 11th, all six players will be at centre-court at St. Vital Centre signing autographs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Fans can purchase all six pucks at St. Vital Centre and get them all signed by the players at this special time.

Additionally, the Moose have also developed a special Manitoba Moose Pink Ribbon lapel pin featuring the traditional pink ribbon symbol along with a Moose logo. All proceeds from the sale of these pucks, as well as the sale of the pins will go towards "Keeping Abreast", a local charity that started in late 2007 and devotes their time to fundraising for research, state-of-the-art medical equipment and education about breast cancer and the benefits of reconstructive surgery.

Then on Saturday, October 30th when the Moose host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it will be Ladies Night. Net proceeds from the month will go to Keeping Abreast. That night, the Moose will have a special puck-drop ceremony and will have "pink" themed graphics in their game production throughout the game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for the event!
