Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost 7-6 in 10 innings to the Louisville Bats on Friday night. Left fielder Tyler Moore homered and drove in five runs for Syracuse, but Louisville catcher Matt Kennelly won the game for the Bats with a 10th-inning walkoff single.

In the 10th, third baseman Henry Rodriguez singled with one out against Erik Davis - Rodriguez's fifth hit of the game. After a Jason Donald groundout, Kennelly lined a 2-1 pitch in front of left fielder Corey Brown, and Rodriguez slid in ahead of the throw to give the Bats the win.

Syracuse (51-61) grabbed the game's first run against Louisville right-hander Chad Reineke in the opening inning. With one out, Jeff Kobernus reached on an infield single and stole second base. Two batters later, Moore knocked a two-strike pitch into right field for an RBI single to score Kobernus.

Louisville (56-59) tied the game in the second inning. With two outs, three straight Bats singled against Syracuse starter Tanner Roark. Rodriguez and Donald laced base hits before Kennelly drove in Rodriguez with a single to left field.

Moore put the Chiefs back in front in the third. After Kobernus and shortstop Danny Espinosa started the inning with singles, Syracuse's left fielder smashed a first-pitch offering from Reineke onto the berm over the left-center field wall for a three-run homer, putting the Chiefs ahead 4-1. Moore's now bashed seven home runs in 31 Syracuse games this season.

Each team scored in the fourth inning. In the top of the frame, Eury Perez and Kobernus reached on one-out singles. Espinosa then blasted a double to the base of the center-field wall, scoring Perez for a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Felix Perez reached on a one-out error by Espinosa. First baseman Neftali Soto followed with a two-run home run that snuck over the left-field wall, cutting the lead to 5-3. Those would be the last runs against Roark, who allowed just two earned runs (three total) in his six innings of work. He allowed eight hits, struck out five and didn't walk a batter.

In the seventh, the Bats tied the game against right-hander Drew Storen, who made his first appearance with the Chiefs since 2010. Kennelly and pinch-hitter Josh Fellhauer started the frame with singles, bringing up leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton. The Bats' center fielder laid down a sacrifice bunt back to Storen, who threw the ball away on a toss to first for a throwing error, scoring Kennelly and advancing the other two runners to second and third base. After an Emmanuel Burriss groundout plated Fellhauer to tie the game at five, Storen struck out Ryan Ludwick and Perez to end the inning.

The Chiefs took a momentary lead once more in the top of the eighth inning. Perez singled to start the inning against right-hander Jose Arrendondo, advanced to second base on a Kobernus sacrifice bunt and stole third. After an Espinosa strikeout, Moore knocked a double down the left-field line, scoring Perez for a 6-5 Syracuse advantage. The double counted for Moore's fifth RBI of the night.

Louisville, however, would answer immediately in its eighth-inning turn at bat. Soto and Rodriguez singled against right-hander Mike Crotta before a Donald sacrifice bunt advanced the runners. After Soto was thrown out at home plate on a fielder's-choice groundout back to Crotta off the bat of Kennelly, Fellhauer grounded a single into right field, tying the score at six runs apiece.

Syracuse heads to Rochester for a two-game set with the Red Wings beginning at 7:05 on Saturday night. Chiefs right-hander Caleb Clay and Red Wings right-hander P.J. Walters are the scheduled starters.
