Montreal Assigns Carey Price And Kyle Chipchura To Hamilton; Jaroslav Halak And Corey Locke Recalled

HAMILTON, ON - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the Club has assigned goaltender Carey Price and forward Kyle Chipchura to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. The Canadiens also announced the recall of netminder Jaroslav Halak and centreman Corey Locke from the Bulldogs. Price and Chipchura will join the Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum tomorrow morning for practice at 10:00 a.m., while Halak and Locke will be available for Montreal's game tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Price, a 20-year-old native of Williams Lake, British Columbia, has played 19 games so far in his rookie season with the Canadiens, posting a record of 9-7-3 with a 2.90 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. After registering a 1-1-0 record with a 1.53 goals against average and a .949 save percentage in just two regular season games with the Bulldogs in 2006-2007, Price won the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as Playoff MVP for the 2007 Calder Cup playoffs with 15 wins, two shutouts, a 2.06 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.

Prior to that, the 6-foot-3, 226-pound netminder won a gold medal as Canada's starting goaltender at the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden. He was named to the tournament All-Star team and was chosen as tournament MVP with a 6-0 record, two shutouts, a 1.14 goals against average and a .961 save percentage in six games. Price was also the 2007 Goaltender of the Year in the Canadian Hockey League and was selected to the Western Hockey League's First All-Star Team.

Chipchura, a 21-year-old native of Westlock, Alberta, has appeared in 36 NHL games with Montreal this season, tallying four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 10 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound centreman had 12 goals, 27 assists, 39 points and 56 penalty minutes in 80 games in the AHL with Hamilton last season. Chipchura also notched 13 points (6-7-13) and 20 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Bulldogs during the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Halak, who took home last week's Rbk/AHL Player of the Week award, has a record of 9-7-2 with two shutouts, a 2.26 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 19 games for Hamilton this season. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound netminder has appeared in 60-career AHL games with the Bulldogs, going 32-24-2 with a franchise-record 11 shutouts. The 22-year-old native of Bratislava, Slovakia, is also 10-6-0 in 17-career NHL outings with Montreal, including one appearance this season, and was an AHL All-Star in 2007 and a member of the AHL's All-Rookie Team in 2006-2007.

Locke, a 23 year-old native of Newmarket, Ontario, leads the Bulldogs with 28 points (12-16-28) and has a plus-6 rating and 22 penalty minutes in 34 games so far this season. The 5-foot-9, 171-pound forward is Hamilton's all-time leading scorer with 185 career points (67-118-185) in 269 career AHL games. Locke was recalled by the Canadiens for the first time in his career on December 30th, 2007 but was returned to the Bulldogs on January 1st, 2008 and has yet to play a regular season game in the NHL.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to the ice at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, January 9th) for an inter-conference tilt with the Binghamton Senators at Copps Coliseum.
