CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Texas Stars at The Q on Friday by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 7-5-2-2 overall this season and with a .563 points percentage, currently sit alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Stars grabbed a 2-0 second period lead with even-strength goals from Denis Gurianov at 1:13 and Roope Hintz at 4:58, respectively. In the third, Texas pushed their edge to 3-0 with a Justin Dowling power-play score at 0:54, but Cleveland drew within a pair thanks to an extra-man Miles Koules finish at 5:46, on feeds from Dean Kukan and Andre Benoit. The Stars emerged with a 4-1 victory, however, as an empty-netter for Texas' Sheldon Dries at 19:03 sealed Cleveland's fate.

Texas net-minder Landon Bow improved to 5-3-0 this season by virtue a 28-save showing, while Monsters backstop Matiss Kivlenieks fell to 2-4-1 between the pipes despite stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced on Friday.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday rematch vs. the Stars with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
