MONSTERS SIGN BRADY AUSTIN TO AHL STANDARD PLAYER CONTRACT

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Friday that the Monsters signed defenseman Brady Austin to an AHL standard player contract (SPC) for the balance of the 2017-18 season. Originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Austin supplied 1-1-2 with eight penalty minutes and a +2 rating in four appearances for the Monsters this season while playing on a professional tryout (PTO) contract.
A 6'4", 229 lb., left-handed native of Bobcaygeon, ON, Austin, 24, posted four penalty minutes in five NHL appearances for Buffalo last season and in 214 AHL appearances for the Rochester Americans and the Monsters spanning parts of four seasons from 2014-17, Austin contributed 8-27-35 with 135 penalty minutes and a -26 rating. Austin additionally appeared in one game for the ECHL's Elmira Jackals during the 2014-15 season and prior to his professional career, Austin notched 29-81-110 with 194 penalty minutes and a +81 rating in 322 OHL appearances for the Erie Otters, Belleville Bulls, and London Knights, spanning five seasons from 2009-14.
