Peoria Rivermen News Release

Cleveland, Ohio (December 14, 2008) - The Lake Erie Monsters withstood a late push from the Peoria Rivermen and held on for 2-1 Sunday night at Quicken Loans Arena. The loss capped a four-game road trip that saw the Rivermen go 2-2-0 with wins in Hamilton and Rochester but two losses against Lake Erie.

Jim Jackson scored the only Peoria goal at 3:47 of the third period to put the Rivermen back within one but Tyler Weiman made nine saves in the third period and 20 overall to keep the Rivermen off the board the rest of the way.

It was the first loss for Chris Holt in five starts with the Rivermen this season as he made 16 saves.

The Monsters capitalized on their first power play of the game to take a 1-0 lead at 8:44 of the first period. With Tyson Strachan off for tripping, Bryan Marshall bounced one past Holt from the side of the goal as he intended to pass it across the slot.

It wasn't until 8:45 of the second period that the Monsters increased their lead to 2-0. As Cody Burki and Chris Mueller worked up ice on a two-on-one, Burki waited and found a trailing Nigel Williams who wristed home his second goal of the season.

The Rivermen turned up the heat in the third period accounting for 10 of their 21 shots in the game over the final 20 minutes. Jackson's slapshot from the left point made its way through traffic and tucked itself just inside the right post. It was Jackson's second goal of the season while Jeff Cowan and Steve Regier earned assists on the play.

Peoria's power play finished 0-for-3 while Lake Erie scored just once on their three chances.
