December 14, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Iowa Wild in overtime on Wednesday at The Q by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Monsters are now 12-11-1-1 and with a .520 points percentage, currently sit tied with the Manitoba Moose for fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

In the first period, Iowa's Alex Tuch scratched across an even-strength goal to open the scoring at 8:22, but the Monsters responded with three unanswered tallies the rest of the way. First, Joe Pendenza buried at even strength thanks to assists from Aaron Palushaj and Dalton Prout at 9:46 before Daniel Zaar notched his seventh of the season at 12:25 with Prout and Sonny Milano combining to set things up at five-on-five. Then, an Alex Broadhurst power-play strike capped the opening frame's scoring at 19:51 on feeds from Milano and T.J. Tynan, providing Cleveland with a 3-1 edge heading into the middle stanza.

In the second, Iowa drew within a goal with a Nick Saracino even-strength score at 5:12 that made it 3-2 Monsters. Then in the frame's final minute, a bizarre Mike Reilly power-play marker was upheld following a video review that confirmed the Wild defenseman's right-circle one-time blast beat Monsters goaltender Anton Forsberg following an offensive-zone draw with just four tenths of a second remaining in the frame to tie things at three heading into the third.

After a scoreless final stanza, Tynan ended things at 2:27 of overtime, scalding home a high-slot power-play wrister on feeds from John Ramage and Forsberg to deliver Cleveland their fourth consecutive victory, and sixth win in the team's past seven games, by a final score of 4-3. Forsberg improved to 8-6-1 in net for the Monsters by virtue of a 26-save performance while Alex Stalock fell to 7-7-2 between the pipes for Iowa despite stopping 22 pucks on Wednesday night.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday rematch vs. the Wild with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
